Trends in Laboratory Testing Practice for Diabetes Mellitus

Many Indian laboratories lack standardized HbA1c testing and appropriate microalbuminuria sample collection methods. Recommendations include adopting National Glycohaemoglobin Standardisation Programme (NGSP) certified HbA1c tests and morning urine samples for microalbuminuria screening.

- Educate laboratorians on adopting NGSP-certified HbA1c methods and morning spot samples for microalbuminuria.
- Implement Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Group in India (DIPSI) guidelines for GDM diagnosis due to its feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
