Guidelines for Writing Outcome01:11

Guidelines for Writing Outcome

3.5K
When developing expected outcomes for a patient care plan, the nurse should adhere to the following recommendations:
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...

Community Based Intervention01:30

Community Based Intervention

198
Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Longitudinal Research02:20

Longitudinal Research

12.9K
Sometimes we want to see how people change over time, as in studies of human development and lifespan. When we test the same group of individuals repeatedly over an extended period of time, we are conducting longitudinal research. Longitudinal research is a research design in which data-gathering is administered repeatedly over an extended period of time. For example, we may survey a group of individuals about their dietary habits at age 20, retest them a decade later at age 30, and then again...

Three Developmental Domains01:29

Three Developmental Domains

796
Human development is typically examined across three main domains: physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional. These domains represent the significant areas of change and continuity throughout the lifespan, from infancy to late adulthood.
Physical Development
Physical processes, also known as maturation, encompass the biological changes that occur across an individual's life. These changes begin with genetic inheritance and continue through various stages, including growth in height and weight,...

Long-term Potentiation01:35

Long-term Potentiation

57.6K
Long-term potentiation, or LTP, is one of the ways by which synaptic plasticity—changes in the strength of chemical synapses—can occur in the brain. LTP is the process of synaptic strengthening that occurs over time between pre- and postsynaptic neuronal connections. The synaptic strengthening of LTP works in opposition to the synaptic weakening of long-term depression (LTD) and together are the main mechanisms that underlie learning and memory.

Area of Science:

  • Dental Education
  • Faculty Development
  • Academic Dentistry

Background:

  • A grant-funded program, From Practice to Preceptor (FP2P), aimed to recruit and train diverse general and pediatric dentists for academic positions between 2012 and 2018.
  • This study evaluates the long-term outcomes of this completed faculty development initiative.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of the From Practice to Preceptor (FP2P) program in preparing dentists for academic careers.
  • To assess the long-term impact of the program on participants' preparedness and employment in dental academia.

Main Methods:

  • 133 dental practitioners applied, and 45 were accepted into the 2-year training program across 5 cohorts.
  • Participants completed pre- and post-surveys assessing perceived preparedness in faculty competencies and an alumni survey.
  • Program completer employment was tracked by the host institution.

Main Results:

  • 80% of participants in selected cohorts (2, 3, and 5) showed increased self-perceived preparedness in administrative, teaching, and clinical faculty roles.
  • Over half of the program completers secured employment as dental faculty.
  • 73% of alumni respondents found the program's skills and knowledge beneficial for their current employment.

Conclusions:

  • The From Practice to Preceptor (FP2P) program demonstrates that long-term faculty training is an effective method for recruiting and preparing dentists for academic positions.
  • The program's success suggests a valuable model for addressing faculty shortages in dental schools.
