Summary

AmplifEYE-assisted colonoscopy (AC) improved polyp and serrated polyp detection rates but not adenoma detection rates compared to standard colonoscopy (SC). AC also reduced intubation time without increasing patient discomfort.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the adenoma detection rate (ADR) of AmplifEYE-assisted colonoscopy (AC) versus standard colonoscopy (SC).
  • To evaluate the impact of AmplifEYE on polyp detection rate (PDR) and serrated polyp detection rate (SDR).

Main Methods:

  • A randomized controlled trial was conducted in two centers.
  • Patients aged 50-79 underwent either AC or SC performed by experienced endoscopists.
  • 334 patients (170 AC, 164 SC) were included in the final analysis.

Main Results:

  • AmplifEYE-assisted colonoscopy showed a numerically higher ADR (47.1% vs 40.9%, P=0.253).
  • Significantly higher PDR (68.2% vs 54.3%, P=0.009) and SDR (37.6% vs 20.1%, P<0.001) were observed with AC.
  • Mean cecal intubation time was shorter in AC (8.0 min vs 8.9 min, P=0.030) with no significant difference in pain scores.

Conclusions:

  • AmplifEYE-assisted colonoscopy significantly enhances polyp and serrated polyp detection.
  • While not statistically significant, ADR was numerically higher with the AmplifEYE device.
  • The device offers benefits of reduced procedure time and comparable patient comfort.
