Summary

Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence (PIVKA-II) is a marker for vitamin K deficiency. Enzyme immunoassay is the most sensitive and reliable method for detecting PIVKA-II.

Background:

  • Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence (PIVKA-II) is an abnormal des-carboxylated prothrombin.

  • Comparison of four methods: (a) total factor II measurement using Echis carinatus snake venom, (b) PIVKA-II measurement after functional factor II adsorption, (c) electrophoresis-immunofixation, and (d) enzyme immunoassay.
