Area of Science:
- Behavioral Science
- Psychology
- Public Health
Background:
- Nomophobia, a modern age disorder, arises from technological devices impacting interpersonal communication.
- Understanding factors influencing nomophobia and its co-occurrence with other addictions is crucial.

- To identify factors affecting nomophobia and smoking addiction.
Main Methods:
- Cross-sectional study involving 641 university students from Medicine, Dental, Nursing, and Physiotherapy departments.
- Utilized the Nomophobia Scale (NMP-Q) and Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND).
- Statistical analyses included Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, Spearman correlation, and Bonferroni tests.
Main Results:

- No significant difference in nomophobia factors was found between smokers (P > .05).
- Female students reported higher average scores in nomophobia sub-dimensions and total scores compared to males (P < .01).
Conclusions:
- The study found no significant correlation between nomophobia and smoking addiction due to a low number of smokers.
- Further research with larger, more diverse smoker populations is needed to explore this relationship.
- Nomophobia is prevalent, and gender differences in its severity were observed.
