Background:

Observation:

  • Five cases of delayed nonexpulsive suprachoroidal hemorrhage post-trabeculectomy in aphakic eyes were reported.
  • Four procedures were under general anesthesia, with three experiencing straining during extubation.
  • The common presentation included sudden ocular pain, decreased vision, and low intraocular pressure one day postoperatively.

Findings:

  • The extent of suprachoroidal hemorrhage correlated with prognosis.
  • Surgical drainage was beneficial for extensive hemorrhages.
  • Two patients with massive hemorrhage recovered preoperative visual acuity after surgical drainage.

Implications:

  • Prompt recognition and management of delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage are crucial.
  • Surgical drainage is a viable option for massive postoperative suprachoroidal hemorrhage.
  • Further research into preventing this complication in aphakic eyes undergoing trabeculectomy is warranted.
