Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when there is an abnormal growth of skin cells, usually triggered by damage to the DNA within the skin cells. It is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds. Summary

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, locally aggressive skin cancer. This study details a combined surgical approach using slow Mohs micrographic surgery for complex pediatric DFSP cases.

Background:

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is an uncommon cutaneous malignancy, accounting for 1%-6% of all soft tissue sarcomas.
DFSP typically presents in adults, with pediatric cases being exceptionally rare, affecting less than one per million individuals under 20.
Characterized by its local aggressiveness and low metastatic potential, DFSP poses unique management challenges, especially in pediatric populations.
