Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the prevalence and characteristics of pain in patients with ILD.
  • To explore associations between pain and clinical factors, quality of life, and psychological status in ILD patients.

Main Methods:

  • 63 ILD patients and 63 healthy controls (HC) completed pain questionnaires (SF-MPQ, BPI-SF).
  • ILD patients underwent Pulmonary Function Tests, 6-Minute Walking Test (6MWT), and mMRC dyspnea assessment.
  • Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychological status (HADS) were measured.

Main Results:

  • Pain prevalence was 61.9% in ILD vs. 25.3% in HC (P=0.005).
  • Chest pain was most common (46.1%) in ILD patients.
  • Pain intensity correlated with ILD risk factor exposure, longer 6MWD (≥250m), and higher mMRC scores (2-4).
  • ILD patients with pain showed impaired HRQoL and higher rates of anxiety and depression.

Conclusions:

  • Pain is prevalent in ILD patients and linked to exposure history, 6MWD, and mMRC score.
  • ILD patients experiencing pain are at higher risk for depression, anxiety, and diminished HRQoL.
