Carboxytherapy for striae distensae: A promising modality

Carbon dioxide therapy (CDT) effectively improves striae distensae (SD) by enhancing skin structure and appearance. This minimally invasive treatment offers a promising solution for this common skin concern with minimal side effects.

- To objectively evaluate the efficacy of carbon dioxide therapy (CDT) for the treatment of striae distensae (SD).

- Twenty patients with SD underwent 8 CDT sessions over 4 months.
- Objective skin topography analysis using a 3D camera and histopathological evaluation of collagen and elastic fibers were performed before and after treatment.

- Significant clinical improvement in SD length and width was observed post-CDT.
- Histometric analysis revealed increased epidermal thickness and rete ridge regeneration.
- Histochemical analysis showed improved organization of elastic fibers and increased, denser collagen content.

- The procedure is simple, with few side effects and minimal downtime.
