Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of infographics on clinician recall and comprehension of orthopaedic research.
  • To compare audience preference for infographics versus traditional text abstracts in a Journal Club setting.

Main Methods:

  • A 10-week audit of a weekly Journal Club, with 5 weeks using text abstracts and 5 weeks using infographics.
  • Weekly multiple-choice questionnaires assessed attendee recall and comprehension.
  • Audience preference was surveyed at the end of the infographic period.

Main Results:

  • Infographic use significantly improved test scores from 42% to 65.8% (p < 0.001).
  • Questions were answered 1.5 times more often correctly after infographic introduction.
  • 78% of attendees preferred infographic displays over plain text abstracts.

Conclusions:

  • Infographics enhance audience comprehension and recall of orthopaedic research.
  • Visual formats are preferred by clinicians and improve engagement.
  • Infographics are a suitable tool for effective dissemination of research findings to a global audience.
