Summary

This study on parapsoriasis patients found reduced non-specific cellular immunity, indicated by DNCB sensitivity tests. Further investigation into late hypersensitivity is recommended before treatment.

Area of Science:

  • Immunology
  • Dermatology

Background:

  • Parapsoriasis diagnosis confirmed clinically and histopathologically.
  • Patients had no current corticosteroid or immunosuppressive therapy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate late hypersensitivity in parapsoriasis patients.
  • To assess non-specific cellular immunity.
  • To determine if hypersensitivity testing is needed before treatment.

Main Methods:

  • In vivo immunological methods were used.
  • Intradermoreactions with infectious antigens (PPD, trichophytin, levedurin, E. coli) were performed.
  • Sensibility to 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) was tested.

Main Results:

  • Low positivity rates for intradermal reactions to tested antigens, except E. coli.
  • Significant statistical difference in DNCB sensitivity between patients and controls.
  • Evidence suggests a degree of non-specific cellular immunity depression.

Conclusions:

  • Cannot conclude depression of non-specific cellular immunity based solely on intradermal reactions.
  • DNCB sensitivity indicates impaired non-specific cellular immunity in parapsoriasis patients.
  • Hypersensitivity evaluation is recommended for parapsoriasis patients prior to treatment.
