This study introduces Informational Structures (IS) and Informational Fields (IF) for a continuous dynamical systems approach to Integrated Information Theory (IIT). These structures geometrically and topologically constrain phase space, enabling prediction of system dynamics.
Area of Science:
- Theoretical Physics
- Neuroscience
- Information Theory
Background:
- Integrated Information Theory (IIT) seeks to quantify consciousness.
- Existing IIT frameworks face challenges in continuous dynamical systems analysis.
- Informational Structures (IS) and Informational Fields (IF) offer a novel approach.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a continuous dynamical systems framework for IIT.
- To extend the concepts of IS and IF for abstract formulation.
- To create a prototype for IIT postulates.
Main Methods:
- Utilizing continuous dynamical systems.
- Incorporating geometrical and topological constraints in phase space.
- Developing an abstract formulation for IS and IF.
Main Results:
- IS and IF provide a comprehensive characterization of system dynamics.
- The framework allows for the analysis of past and future dynamical scenarios.
- Established a continuous framework for abstract IIT formulation.
Conclusions:
- The developed framework offers a robust approach to IIT.
- IS and IF are essential for understanding system dynamics within IIT.
- This work serves as a foundation for further development of IIT postulates.
