Rous Sarcoma virus or RSV was discovered by F. Peyton Rous in the year 1911 as a filterable transmissible agent that could cause tumors in chickens. He won a Nobel Prize for this discovery in 1966.   • A 73-year-old woman with a history of breast-conserving treatment for right breast cancer presented with subtle pinkish skin changes.
  • Mammography showed benign alterations (BI-RADS 2), and initial biopsy suggested an atypical vascular lesion.
  • Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed radiogenic angiosarcoma, positive for CD31, CD34, and C-MYC oncogene amplification.

Findings:

  • The case illustrates a delayed diagnosis of radiogenic angiosarcoma due to subtle initial skin manifestations.
  • These early signs can be misdiagnosed as benign conditions like telangiectasia.
  • Prompt recognition and diagnosis are vital for effective management.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering radiogenic angiosarcoma in patients with a history of breast radiation therapy.
  • Increased clinical awareness can lead to earlier diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
  • Further research into early detection methods for this rare breast cancer is warranted.
