Different modes of full-thickness macular hole formation

Full-thickness macular holes (FTMH) can form through various mechanisms, including hyaloidal traction and epiretinal membrane traction. Visual acuity in FTMH eyes correlates with hole size and foveal wall height.

- Visual acuity in eyes with OLH or FTMH is primarily determined by the size of the central photoreceptor-free area.
