Abstract:
Stainless steel wire mesh has been used for many years to reinforce acetabular cement. A case has been seen in which considerable corrosion and disintegration of the mesh were noted, with gross metallosis of the surrounding tissues. It is postulated that galvanic corrosion occurred between the stainless steel mesh and the cobalt chrome femoral prosthesis.
