    • To describe the care pathway of myocardial infarction patients residing in remote geographical areas.
    • To identify key steps and needs within the patient journey for remote myocardial infarction care.

    • A qualitative formative research design was employed.
    • Data collected from sixteen patients who underwent percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.
    • Interviews with four health professionals from Family Medicine Groups (FMGs) were conducted.

    Main Results:

    • Eight distinct steps were identified in the myocardial infarction care pathway.
    • Three priority needs emerged: understanding care services, improving health information communication, and establishing post-discharge follow-up.
    • Nurses play a pivotal role throughout the patient pathway.

    Conclusions:

    • The current care and service pathway for myocardial infarction patients in this remote area is suboptimal.
    • Enhanced communication and coordinated follow-up by FMG professionals are essential.
