In Italy, the issue of the environment was addressed by the doctrine and jurisprudence, but only in recent years – as a result of a progressive deterioration of the planetary ecosystem – has formed a European law of the environment that has strongly influenced the Italian legislation. The paper aims to shed light on the principles of the Italian Constitution that protect the environment until the new legislation concerning environmental crime.
