Background:

Hirschsprung's disease requires surgical intervention.
The modified Duhamel's procedure is a two-staged approach for treatment.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate short- and long-term outcomes.
To assess quality of life (QOL) after the modified Duhamel's procedure for Hirschsprung's disease.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of patients undergoing the modified Duhamel's procedure.
Inclusion criteria: initial Hartmann's procedure, bowel preparation, and low colo-anal anastomosis.
Data collected via interview-based questionnaire with a minimum 2-year follow-up.

Main Results:

Initial perineal excoriation and soiling reduced significantly within 2 years.
Short-term postoperative issues included constipation and altered stool consistency.
Long-term results showed excellent fecal continence (97.1%) and good QOL (95.4%).

Conclusions:

Short-term bowel dysfunction and soiling improve significantly over time.
The modified Duhamel's procedure leads to good long-term outcomes and quality of life in Hirschsprung's disease patients.
