  • To determine if these interventions improve the frequency of PHH.

  • A before-and-after study design was employed.
  • Baseline patient hand hygiene opportunities were audited over six weeks.
  • A PHH bundle, informed by staff focus groups and public surveys, was implemented and its effect monitored via structured observation over 12 weeks.

  • Baseline PHH compliance was 13.2% (40/303 opportunities).
  • After implementing the PHH bundle, compliance increased to 58.9% (310/526 opportunities).
  • This represents a significant increase of 45.7% (P < .001).

Conclusions:

  • This intervention can reduce the risk of HCAI in hospital settings.
