Telocytes/CD34+ stromal cells (TCs/CD34+SCs) were studied in various pathological adipose tissues. Findings suggest CD34 expression changes rather than cell loss, and TCs/CD34+SCs may act as nurse cells in tumors.
Area of Science:
- Adipose tissue biology
- Cellular pathology
- Stromal cell research
Background:
- Telocytes/CD34+ stromal cells (TCs/CD34+SCs) play roles in tissue homeostasis.
- Their behavior in pathological adipose tissue remains underexplored.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the presence and role of TCs/CD34+SCs in diverse pathological adipose tissue conditions.
- To explore potential changes in CD34 expression and their function in tumor microenvironments.
Main Methods:
- Review of pathological processes involving adipose tissue.
- Examination of TCs/CD34+SCs in inflammation, amyloidosis, neurogenic processes, and various tumors.
- Analysis of cell conservation, increase, loss, or altered arrangement.
Main Results:
- TCs/CD34+SCs were observed in various pathological states, including inflammation, amyloidosis, and tumors.
- Evidence suggests CD34 expression loss in TCs/CD34+SCs is due to marker changes, not cell disappearance.
- In some metastatic tumors, TCs/CD34+SCs appear to surround neoplastic cells, potentially acting as nurse or isolating cells.
Conclusions:
- TCs/CD34+SCs exhibit dynamic changes in pathological adipose tissue.
- Further research is needed on TCs/CD34+SCs in lipomatosis and obesity.
- The role of TCs/CD34+SCs in tumor progression warrants deeper investigation.
