Summary

This study shows that the hanging method with a supraclavicular block is an effective technique for managing anterior shoulder dislocations. Most shoulder dislocations were successfully reduced using this minimally invasive approach.

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Surgical Techniques

Background:

  • Anterior shoulder dislocation is a common injury.
  • Effective and minimally invasive reduction techniques are crucial for patient outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of the hanging method combined with a supraclavicular block for anterior shoulder dislocation reduction.
  • To describe the technique for managing these injuries.

Main Methods:

  • A 2-year retrospective study of 23 patients with anterior shoulder dislocation.
  • Management involved the hanging method and a supraclavicular nerve block.
  • The specific technique employed was documented.

Main Results:

  • Successful reduction was achieved in 21 out of 23 cases (91.3%).
  • The combined technique proved effective and easily accomplished for most patients.
  • Two cases required alternative management, indicating potential limitations.

Conclusions:

  • The hanging method with a supraclavicular block is a highly effective and easily performed technique for reducing anterior shoulder dislocations.
  • This approach offers a viable option for orthopedic and emergency medicine settings.
  • Further studies may explore its application in more complex cases.
