Summary

Primary pulmonary angiosarcoma is rare, with no prior reports of it presenting as a Pancoast tumor. This case details a right superior sulcus pulmonary angiosarcoma successfully treated with surgery.

Background:

Primary pulmonary angiosarcoma is an exceptionally rare vascular tumor of the lung.
Fewer than 30 cases have been documented in medical literature.
Pancoast tumors, typically lung cancers, arise in the superior sulcus.

Observation:

A case of primary pulmonary angiosarcoma was identified.
The tumor was uniquely located in the right superior sulcus, mimicking a Pancoast tumor.
The patient's tumor was surgically treated.

Findings:

This represents the first reported instance of primary pulmonary angiosarcoma presenting as a Pancoast tumor.
Surgical intervention was feasible and performed for this rare presentation.
Histopathological confirmation of angiosarcoma in this location is crucial.

Implications:

Highlights the importance of considering rare diagnoses in Pancoast tumor presentations.
Suggests that surgical resection may be a viable treatment option for select pulmonary angiosarcomas.
Contributes to the limited understanding of primary pulmonary angiosarcoma and its clinical behavior.
