Retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma-a case report.

• A 35-year-old woman presented with recurrent left lumbar pain.
• Computed Tomography (CT) scan suggested a retroperitoneal cyst as the preliminary diagnosis.
• The patient underwent an explorative laparotomy for diagnosis and treatment.

Findings:

• The surgical exploration confirmed the presence of a retroperitoneal lymphangioma.
• The entire cystic mass was successfully excised from surrounding retroperitoneal structures.
• Sharp and blunt dissection techniques were employed for complete tumor removal.

Implications:

• This case highlights the importance of considering rare diagnoses like retroperitoneal lymphangioma in patients with unexplained lumbar pain.
• Successful surgical excision is the primary treatment modality for symptomatic retroperitoneal lymphangiomas.
• Further research into the etiology and optimal management of these rare tumors is warranted.
