Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Endodontics
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Accurate working length (WL) determination is crucial for successful endodontic treatment.
  • Conventional methods and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) software are used for WL measurement.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the accuracy of 3D Endo software, Romexis Viewer (CBCT), and EAL E-Pex Pro for WL determination.

Main Methods:

  • Three hundred and two root canals in 110 human molars were analyzed.
  • Actual lengths (ALs) were measured.
  • Root canal lengths were measured using 3D Endo (proposed and correct lengths), Romexis Viewer, and E-Pex Pro.

Main Results:

  • EAL E-Pex Pro demonstrated the highest accuracy (99.7%) within ±0.5 mm of AL.
  • 3D Endo software showed high accuracy (83.8% for proposed length, 86.7% for correct length).
  • Romexis Viewer had lower accuracy (48.3%), but 3D Endo and Romexis Viewer showed agreement with AL measurements.

Conclusions:

  • EAL E-Pex Pro is highly accurate for root canal WL determination.
  • CBCT measurements using 3D Endo software and Romexis Viewer (0.15 mm voxel size) agree with actual root canal lengths.
