Background:

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted traditional continuing medical education and professional development.
The 2020 International Web-Based Neurosurgery Congress (2020 IWBNC) was established as the first virtual neurosurgical congress.
This article details the experience of designing and organizing the 2020 IWBNC.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the methodology and experience of organizing a large-scale virtual neurosurgery congress.
To present the 2020 IWBNC as a successful model for web-based academic meetings.
To highlight the innovative double-room method used for the congress.

Main Methods:

The congress was organized in 4 weeks by the Center for Research and Training in Neurosurgery (CIEN) using eight specialized committees.
A strict double-room method was implemented, utilizing two virtual rooms across four physical locations to prevent lecture overlap and connection issues.
Quality and impact were assessed via videoconferencing analytics, social media metrics, and audience surveys.

Main Results:

The 2020 IWBNC achieved high academic standards, global participation, schedule adherence, and security.
The event featured 25 international speakers, 30 multidisciplinary conferences, 3096 participants from 125 countries, and 22,266 live-stream views.
No technical or cybersecurity issues were reported during the congress.

Conclusions:

Web-based academic meetings are valuable tools for continuing medical education and professional development.
The 2020 IWBNC's double-room method offers a viable and replicable alternative for organizing virtual congresses.
This model can guide the academic community in planning future online scientific events.
