Summary

Linear IgA bullous dermatosis (LABD) is a rare skin reaction to vancomycin. Early recognition and stopping the drug are key to managing this severe side effect.

  • Adverse medication side effects are frequent in hospitalized patients due to polypharmacy.
  • Linear IgA bullous dermatosis (LABD) is a recognized, albeit uncommon, cutaneous drug reaction.

  • A 66-year-old male patient developed LABD while receiving vancomycin.
  • The patient presented with severe blistering skin lesions characteristic of LABD.

Findings:

  • Vancomycin was identified as the likely causative agent for the patient's LABD.
  • Discontinuation of vancomycin and supportive care led to symptom improvement.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering vancomycin-induced LABD in patients with unexplained bullous eruptions.
