Performed microbiological cultures and decolonization for positive cases.

Main Results:

Identified multiresistant pathogens in 6.6% of patients (MRSA in 5%).
Found systemic risk factors in 11 of the 17 positive patients.
No cases of postoperative endophthalmitis were observed after decolonization and standard antibiotic prophylaxis.

Conclusions:

Standard antibiotic prophylaxis for endophthalmitis may be insufficient for patients positive for multiresistant pathogens.
Preoperative screening and decolonization for multiresistant pathogens are recommended for at-risk cataract surgery patients.
This approach can help mitigate the risk of serious post-surgical infections.
