Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Surgical Pathology

Background:

  • Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) is an aggressive malignancy typically affecting adult soft tissues.
  • While common in the limbs and trunk, UPS rarely occurs in the mesentery, presenting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

  • This report details a rare case of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma originating in the ascending mesocolon.

Findings:

  • Complete tumor resection is the primary treatment for UPS.
  • The efficacy of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in mesenteric UPS requires further investigation.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known anatomical sites for UPS.
  • Further research is needed to clarify optimal management strategies for mesenteric UPS, including the role of neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies.
