This case report highlights a rare complication, cervical pseudomeningocele, after spinal laminectomy for a herniated disc. Early diagnosis with metrizamide CT scan led to successful surgical treatment and good neurological outcomes.

Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Cervical pseudomeningocele is an uncommon complication following spinal surgery.
  • Laminectomy for protruded discs can predispose patients to this condition.

Observation:

  • A case of postoperative cervical pseudomeningocele occurred in a woman after laminectomy for a herniated disc.
  • Diagnostic workup included myelography and metrizamide computed tomography (CT).

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention resulted in a favorable neurological outcome for the patient.
  • Review of eight additional cases emphasizes the diagnostic utility of metrizamide CT scans.

Implications:

  • Metrizamide CT scanning plays a crucial role in diagnosing this unusual complication of cervical laminectomies.
