Profile analysis of pupils at a school for black deaf children. A pilot study
1Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University of Pretoria.
Abstract:
The pupils at a school for black hearing-disabled children were clinically investigated and the findings were analysed with regard to age, sex, and nature and possible cause of deafness. A total of 169 children were examined. The majority were boys, and 95% were hearing-disabled before the age of 3 years. One-tenth of the children had a positive family history. An apparent cause could be established with a degree of certainty in only 30% of cases.
