Melatonin Receptor Gene Polymorphism in Bipolar-I Disorder

Genetic variations in the melatonin receptor 1B (MTNR1B) gene, specifically the -1193C>T polymorphism, are linked to Bipolar-I Disorder (BD-I). This finding may explain sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances in BD-I patients.

- No significant association was found between BD-I and the MTNR1A gene -184T>C polymorphism (p >0.05).
Conclusions:
- The MTNR1B gene -1193C>T polymorphism may contribute to the genetic basis of Bipolar-I Disorder.
- This polymorphism could be a contributing factor to the sleep and circadian rhythm disorders observed in BD-I patients.
