Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is common in adults with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. While OSA severity correlated with HbA1c, it did not impact insulin sensitivity or pancreatic beta-cell function in this study.

- Higher AHI was significantly associated with increased HbA1c levels (P=0.007).
- Neither OSA severity nor sleep duration correlated with fasting glucose, 2-h glucose, insulin sensitivity, or beta-cell function.
Conclusions:
- OSA is common in adults with prediabetes or newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes.
- While OSA severity relates to HbA1c, it does not appear to directly impair insulin sensitivity or beta-cell function in this population.
- Further research is needed to fully elucidate the complex relationship between sleep disturbances and metabolic health.
