Summary

A rare ureteral fibro-epithelial polyp (UFP) was successfully removed using Ho:YAG laser resection. This endoscopic approach is effective for UFP treatment, but ureteral stricture is a potential complication.

Background:

  • Ureteral fibro-epithelial polyp (UFP) is a rare benign ureteral tumor.
  • Surgical removal is the standard treatment for UFPs.
  • Massive UFPs extending to the urethra are exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A 37-year-old woman presented with hematuria and an extraurethral mass.
  • CTU revealed a filling defect at the ureterovesical junction.
  • Ureteroscopy identified a ureteral mass protruding from the urethral orifice.

Findings:

  • A huge ureteral fibro-epithelial polyp was diagnosed.
  • Endoscopic laser resection using Ho:YAG laser was performed successfully.
  • The patient was discharged 3 days post-operation with resolution of symptoms.

Implications:

  • Ureteral fibro-epithelial polyps should be considered in the differential diagnosis of urethral neoplasms.
  • Ho:YAG laser resection via ureteroscopy is an effective treatment for UFPs.
  • Caution is advised regarding potential ureteral stricture post-surgery.
