Purpose of the Study:

  • To quantify and compare intramedullary pressure in various diaphyseal and metaphyseal regions of long bones in dogs.

  • Intramedullary pressure was measured bilaterally in 36 skeletally mature dogs.

  • Repeated measurements showed no significant variation, indicating the pressure ranges were not artifactual.

Conclusions:

  • Intramedullary pressure varies significantly between diaphyseal and metaphyseal bone regions in dogs.
  • Diaphyseal intramedullary pressure is consistently higher than metaphyseal intramedullary pressure.
  • These findings provide valuable baseline data for canine orthopedic research and clinical applications.
