Real ear measurements (REMs) are crucial for accurate hearing aid fitting.

To explore first-time hearing aid users' perspectives on informational counseling during REMs.
To assess the content and format preferences for counseling during hearing aid verification.

Qualitative interpretive description approach utilizing focus groups.
16 first-time hearing aid users participated in four focus groups.
Verbatim transcription and qualitative content analysis of focus group data.

Main Results:

Client feedback revealed both positive and negative aspects of informational counseling during REMs.
Clients expressed interest in learning more about REMs if the information was presented accessibly.
Identified key themes in the interaction and transaction of informational counseling.

Conclusions:

Recommendations are provided for audiologists and REM system manufacturers to enhance client-centered care.
Making informational counseling more client-friendly and individualized is essential.
Further research is needed to determine the added value of informational counseling during REMs.
