After a fibrin clot is formed, the next step is clot retraction, a vital process facilitated by platelet contractile proteins, such as actin and myosin. These proteins pull the fibrin strands closer together and condense the clot. This action reduces the size of the clot, creating a smaller, denser structure that effectively seals off the damaged vessel. Clot retraction consolidates the clot and helps with wound healing by bringing the edges of the damaged blood vessel closer together.

Integrins act both as extracellular input receivers and as intracellular processing activators. As their name suggests, integrins are entirely integrated into the membrane structure. Summary

Fibrin glue effectively reattached retinas in five patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. This innovative method shows promise as an alternative to traditional treatments, offering excellent sealing and no side effects.

Background:

  • Conventional treatments for RRD include laser photocoagulation and cryopexy to seal retinal tears.
  • The development of novel methods for retinal tear sealing is crucial for improving surgical outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of fibrin glue as a tissue adhesive for managing rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
  • To assess the safety and effectiveness of using fibrin glue in conjunction with pars plana vitrectomy for retinal reattachment.

Main Methods:

  • Five patients with RRD underwent 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy.
  • Fibrin glue (Tisseel Lyo) was applied directly into the retinal breaks under air, without laser or cryopexy.
  • Surgical outcomes and visual acuity were monitored postoperatively.
