Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify the relationship between CRP, IgE, hemoglobin, ferritin, vitamin D, and platelets with active and chronic schistosomiasis.
  • To investigate demographic influences and interrelationships of these biomarkers.

Main Methods:

  • Cross-sectional study involving 400 participants.
  • Parasitological analysis, Indirect Hemagglutination Test, Enzyme linked Immunoassay, and Hematology Analyzer.
  • Statistical analysis using SPSS version 25.

Main Results:

  • 25% of participants had schistosomiasis (active or chronic).
  • Higher CRP and IgE levels in active infections; lower hemoglobin in active, improving in chronic infections.
  • Vitamin D was reduced in both active and chronic schistosomiasis; platelets remained normal.

Conclusions:

  • Anemia correlates with inflammatory markers (CRP, IgE) in early schistosomiasis.
  • Hemoglobin and ferritin levels improve during chronicity.
  • Hypovitaminosis-D is associated with schistosomiasis throughout its course.
