Background:

  • Kidney transplantation (KT) may offer a potential pathway to mitigate cardiac abnormalities associated with ESRD.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of kidney transplantation on cardiac structure and function in patients with end-stage renal disease.
  • To assess changes in echocardiographic parameters before and after KT.
  • To explore correlations between hematological improvements and cardiac remodeling post-transplant.

Main Methods:

  • A longitudinal prospective study involving 30 ESRD patients undergoing KT.
  • Echocardiographic assessments of cardiac morphology, systolic, and diastolic function were performed pre-KT and at 3 and 6 months post-KT.
  • Exclusion criteria included pre-existing ischemic or valvular heart disease.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements in echocardiographic parameters of cardiac morphology, systolic function, and diastolic function were observed post-KT.
  • Left ventricular hypertrophy showed significant regression within 6 months after transplantation.

  • Improvements in hemoglobin levels post-transplant are associated with favorable cardiac changes.
