Interval versus constant-load exercise training in adults with Cystic Fibrosis.

Interval exercise (IE) significantly improved muscle strength and respiratory function in adults with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) more than constant-load exercise (CLE). IE also reduced breathlessness and oxygen desaturation during exercise.

- Arterial oxygen saturation was higher (94 ± 1% vs. 91 ± 1%, p=0.002) and dyspnea scores were lower (3.8 ± 0.7 vs. 5.9 ± 0.8, p=0.001) during IE compared to CLE.
Conclusions:
- Interval exercise is superior to constant-load exercise for enhancing both peripheral and respiratory muscle strength in adults with Cystic Fibrosis.
- Interval exercise is a preferable training modality due to reduced exercise-induced arterial oxygen desaturation and lower perceived breathlessness.
