Summary

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a rare, benign histiocyte growth in children that typically resolves on its own. Extracutaneous disease is uncommon, so routine extra examinations are usually not needed.

Background:

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a rare, benign neoplastic proliferation of non-Langerhans histiocytes.
It typically presents in infants and young children, often with cutaneous lesions.

Observation:

A 1.5-year-old boy was diagnosed with juvenile xanthogranuloma.
The condition is generally self-limiting, with spontaneous resolution of lesions.

Findings:

Extracutaneous manifestations of JXG are rare.
These are more frequently observed in cases with multiple lesions or ocular involvement.

Implications:

Routine systemic or further investigations are generally not indicated for isolated JXG.
Focus should be on monitoring for rare extracutaneous spread, especially with specific lesion characteristics.
