Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression of circulating miR-30b during male puberty.
  • To explore the relationship between miR-30b levels and hormonal markers of puberty.

Main Methods:

  • Assessed circulating miR-30b expression in 26 boys with constitutional delay of growth and puberty (CDGP).
  • Boys received low-dose testosterone or letrozole treatment for 6 months, with 12 months follow-up.
  • Evaluated associations between miR-30b expression and hormonal markers (LH, testosterone, inhibin B, FSH) and testicular volume.

Main Results:

  • Circulating miR-30b expression significantly increased (2.4-fold) over 12 months in all boys (P=0.008).
  • No significant correlation was found between miR-30b changes and hormonal markers or testicular volume.
  • Letrozole treatment showed variable miR-30b responses, while testosterone treatment correlated with significant miR-30b level changes.

Conclusions:

  • Circulating miR-30b expression rises during puberty in boys with CDGP.
  • MiR-30b levels appear associated with the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.
