  • A comprehensive literature search was performed across PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for studies published before August 2020.

  • Publication bias was evaluated using funnel plots, Begg's rank correlation test, and Egger regression asymmetry tests, with adjustments for confounding factors in most included studies.

  • Subgroup analyses indicated a stronger association in adult and female e-cigarette users.

Conclusions:

  • This meta-analysis concludes that both current and former e-cigarette use are associated with an increased prevalence of asthma.
  • Further research with more rigorous study designs is warranted to definitively establish the specific relationship between e-cigarette use and asthma.
