Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if baseline serum triglyceride (TG) levels predict metabolic improvements after LSG.
  • To compare weight loss and metabolic changes between patients with normal and high TG levels post-LSG.

Main Methods:

  • 112 obese patients (BMI ≥ 35 kg/m²) underwent LSG.
  • Patients were divided into normal TG (≤ 1.7 mmol/L) and high TG (> 1.7 mmol/L) groups.
  • Post-operative changes in anthropometric and metabolic parameters were compared at 6 months.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements in metabolic parameters were observed 6 months post-LSG.
  • Patients with normal baseline TG levels showed a greater reduction in BMI (11.42±3.23 kg/m²) compared to high TG group (9.13±2.77 kg/m²).
  • Normal TG group had significantly higher odds for BMI and waist circumference reduction post-LSG.

Conclusions:

  • Baseline triglyceride levels under 1.7 mmol/L predict greater weight loss at 6 months post-LSG.
  • Serum TG levels may serve as a short-term predictive marker for weight loss after bariatric surgery.
  • Further research is warranted to explore long-term predictive value and underlying mechanisms.
