Summary

Lactated Ringer's with albumin (LRA) is optimal for burn resuscitation. This fluid solution improved cardiac output, maintained normal electrolytes, and prevented edema in burn-injured sheep.

Main Methods:

  • An ovine model with a 40% flame burn was used, with resuscitation initiated one hour post-injury.
  • Four different hydrating solutions were administered in equal volumes: lactated Ringer's, hypertonic salt solution, lactated Ringer's with albumin, and hypertonic salt solution with albumin.
  • Hemodynamic parameters, renal function, hematologic values, electrolyte balance, acid-base status, and serum osmolality were monitored.
