Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of external splints versus surgical taping after rhinoplasty.
  • To compare periorbital edema, ecchymosis, and nasal symmetry between the two groups.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective randomized study of 40 adult patients undergoing primary rhinoplasty.
  • Patients were assigned to either external splinting or surgical taping post-operation.
  • Periorbital edema, ecchymosis, and nasal osteotomy symmetry were assessed.

Main Results:

  • Surgical taping resulted in significantly lower periorbital edema and ecchymosis on postoperative days 2 and 7.
  • No significant difference in nasal symmetry was found between the splinted and taped groups.
  • P < 0.05 for edema and ecchymosis reduction with taping.

Conclusions:
