Sudden loss of smell or taste due to COVID-19 often improves within a month, but recovery slows significantly after 2-4 months. High symptom severity may indicate a poorer prognosis for chemosensory dysfunction recovery.

- Higher subjective severity of chemosensory loss is associated with a worse prognosis for recovery.
