Impaired antibody responses in the hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome

Patients with hyper-IgE (HIE) syndrome show impaired antibody responses to bacterial polysaccharides and other antigens. This defect in specific antibody production may explain their increased susceptibility to recurrent infections.
