    Background:

    • CBA/N mice possess an X-linked defect in B lymphocyte differentiation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the in vivo immune responses of CBA/N and normal CBA/J mice to thymus-independent antigens.
    • To investigate the nature of the B cell defect in CBA/N mice.
    • To determine if the defect is specific to TI responses or affects broader B cell subpopulations.

    Main Methods:

    • In vivo immunization of mice with 2,4,6-trinitrophenylated (TNP) bacteriophage T4 and TNP-conjugated Diplococcus pneumoniae CS variant.
    • Quantification of plaque-forming cell responses.
