Digital health technologies generate vast health information, but poor quality can harm patient safety. A new framework, CLIQ, evaluates digital health information quality to improve clinical use and prevent safety issues.
Area of Science:
- Health Informatics
- Patient Safety
- Systematic Review
Background:
- Digital health technologies (DHTs) produce extensive data for healthcare.
- Clinical use of digital health information presents patient safety challenges due to information quality (IQ) issues.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize an IQ framework for evaluating digital health information suitability in clinical settings.
- To develop a comprehensive framework for assessing the quality of digital health information.
Main Methods:
- Systematic review following PRISMA guidelines.
- Searched multiple databases (Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, etc.) until October 2019.
- Thematic synthesis used to develop the Clinical Information Quality (CLIQ) framework for digital health.
Main Results:
- Identified 10 IQ frameworks and developed the CLIQ framework.
- CLIQ framework comprises 13 dimensions: accessibility, completeness, portability, security, timeliness, accuracy, interpretability, plausibility, provenance, relevance, conformance, consistency, and maintainability.
- Dimensions categorized into availability, informativeness, and usability.
Conclusions:
- Emphasizes the critical role of IQ in DHTs for patient safety.
- The CLIQ framework aids in evaluating and understanding IQ issues in digital health.
- Implementation of CLIQ can help prevent patient safety problems related to digital health information.
