    • A retrospective analysis of 47 patients who underwent surgery for suspected gallbladder cancer.
    • Patients were categorized based on whether gallbladder cancer was diagnosed preoperatively (18 patients) or incidentally during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (29 patients) via frozen biopsy.
    • Comparison of survival rates and disease staging between the two groups.

    Main Results:

    • Incidental discovery of gallbladder cancer during laparoscopic cholecystectomy occurred in 61.7% of cases.

    • Early-stage disease (Stage I/II) was more common in incidentally diagnosed patients (58.6%) than in those with a preoperative diagnosis (all Stage II or higher).

    Conclusions:

    • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy facilitates earlier detection of gallbladder cancer in a subset of patients, leading to improved survival probabilities.
    • Adjunctive radical surgical resection, performed either during the initial cholecystectomy or subsequently, significantly increases survival for early-stage gallbladder cancer.
    • The findings support the benefit of radical resection for early-stage gallbladder carcinoma identified via laparoscopic approach.
